Snapshots
When garment simulation is finished, VStitcher saves the final simulated garment as a snapshot. (For exceptions, refer to Creating a Snapshot.) Snapshots work as a reference point, allowing you to quickly retrieve previously simulated output of a dressed garment.
There are the following types of snapshot:
Automatic: created each time a simulation finishes, overwriting the previous snapshot for the same avatar.
Manual: user created. Manual snapshots are not overwritten, but only drape is captured. Therefore, if you change stitching, fabric, or a pattern piece, you need to update the manual snapshot.
Viewing Snapshots
To view snapshots:
On the Resources tabs, click 3D.
On the 3D tab, click Snapshots. The available snapshots are displayed.
Alternatively, to view snapshots, on the Main toolbar, click Snapshots. The available snapshots are displayed.
Snapshots UI Update
The Snapshot tab (in the Resources tabs) displays helpful user feedback relevant to snapshots.
If you make a change to the current snapshot which triggers simulation, or otherwise trigger simulation, a blue border is displayed around the snapshot.
Once simulation is complete or Finish is clicked, the new snapshot is highlighted in blue. It shows the snapshot currently displaying in the 3D window.
If you take any editing action which deletes the current snapshot, a system generated warning is displayed.
When hovering over a snapshot in the Snapshots tab, the related pattern pieces are outlined and highlighted in the 2D window.
When loading a snapshot, “Loading Snapshot” is displayed in the 3D window.
You can edit the name of manually added snapshots.
To edit the name of a manually added snapshot:
In the Snapshots tab, double-click the name of the snapshot you want to edit.
Type in the new name, then press Return.
Shoes and Snapshots
Shoes are saved within snapshots, both automatic and manual.
Adding or replacing shoes is updated in an automatic snapshot on simulation.
Loading a saved snapshot loads the shoes saved with it
Deleting snapshots
To delete a snapshot:
- On the Resources tabs, click 3D.
- On the 3D tab, click Snapshots. The available snapshots are displayed.
- Go to the snapshot you want to delete and hover over it. Click X. The snapshot is deleted.
When garment simulation is finished, VStitcher automatically saves the final simulated garment as a snapshot.
Snapshots are automatically generated for each different avatar, avatar pose, and garment size used in a garment file.
Snapshots are not automatically created for a change in stitching, pattern shape, or fabric unless you dress the avatar again.
Each time a simulation finishes, any newly generated snapshot is automatically saved over the previous snapshot for the same avatar.
If you want a snapshot to persist, you must manually create a snapshot.
To manually create a snapshot:
Ensure the avatar has been dressed and the garment simulation has finished:
On the Main toolbar, click Dress.
On the Main toolbar, click Finish.
On the Resources tabs, click 3D.
On the 3D tab, click Snapshots.
On the Snapshots tab, click Save Snapshot.
The Choose Snapshot Name dialog box is displayed.
Type a name for the snapshot and click OK.
Using Snapshots
When you select a snapshot, the dressed garment and avatar are displayed in the 3D window.
Some typical uses of snapshots are:
For quick transitions between avatars and poses
For saving garment adjustments made with the 3D styling tools
For saving views with pieces hidden, subtracted, or added
To reduce the need to re-dress and re-simulate the garment when making minor aesthetic adjustments
To use a snapshot:
On the Main toolbar, click Snapshots. Snapshots are displayed.
Click the snapshot you want.
If you hover over a snapshot thumbnail which is a different colorway from the currently displayed snapshot, the following options are displayed:
Saved - click to load the snapshot in the colorway it was saved in.
Current - click to load the snapshot in the currently active colorway.
The selected snapshot is displayed in the 3D window.
Snapshots are saved in a pose. If you open a snapshot with an editable pose which is not in your list of available poses:
The snapshot opens in the pose it was saved in
The Poses pop-up pane is displayed with:
The pose name marked with a blue circle
A message about adding the pose
The following image shows an example of the Poses pop-up pane with the blue circle and the message.
To add the pose to your list of poses:
Click Add Pose.
In the Context view, the Edit Pose pane is displayed.
In the Edit Pose pane, type the pose name, and click Save.
For more information, refer to Designing Avatar Poses Overview.
